Backporting
I’m finding that my writing continues to happen organically on other platforms, rather than here on this blog.
While my goal is to move more toward essay-style content that I host here, it would be remiss if I didn’t make an effort to copy over thoughtful words I’ve composed elsewhere.
To this end, I’m going to be backporting selected comments and posts I’ve made on other platforms, particularly Hacker News. I’ll do my best to include links to the original context, while still showcasing my work.
This means that the next several posts may seem a bit old-news; I’ll probably on occasion mention long-past political events, or assume currency of a particular discourse that has come and gone.
Whenever I do this, I’ll endeavour to mark the content as backported, and include not only a link to the original article, but also to this explainer.
To keep the timeline linear, I’ll be backdating the articles as well. This means that they will show up ‘in the past’ rather than at the top of this blog. I argue that this is ok, provided it is clearly marked; hence, this post.
I’ll also tag the articles both as ‘backport’ and by a tag that indicates their source, for example hackernews
.
